Cryptocurrency is finally going to Hollywood. It was only a matter of time before clever filmmakers picked up on the cultural phenomenon that is cryptocurrency. The film, which will be centered around digital currency and crime, will be released in 2019. The producers have called it a thriller, and have drawn similarities between Crypto and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Crypto won’t be the first movie to feature cryptocurrencies, however. Last year the Coen brothers announced that they would be working on a movie about the Silk Road. The Coen brothers is perhaps best known for cult classics such as The Big Lebowski and No Country For Old Men. A Vietnamese movie by the name of Bitcoin Heist also involved cryptocurrencies. Crypto is, however, going to be the first film of its kind featuring a star-studded cast.
Who is going to be working on the Crypto movie?
The two creators behind the new Crypto movie are film producers Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman. The pair has most recently worked on films such as King Cobra from 2016 starring James Franco. They also have a soon-to-be-released movie by the name of Green Dolphin starring Sean William Scott. Coincidentally, both of these films were shot in upstate New York, which is where the majority of Crypto will take place. Writing the script for Crypto will be Carlyle Eubank and David Frigerio.
Who is going to star in the Crypto movie?
Levine and Beckerman have managed to secure a star-studded cast for Crypto. The lead role will be played by the Hollywood legend Kurt Russell. He’s recently starred in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 and Escape From New York. Supporting Russell will be Alexis Bledel from The Handmaid’s Tale, Beau Knapp from The Nice Guys, Luke Hemsworth from Westworld, and Vincent Kartheiser from Mad Men. The producers are very happy with the cast and believe it will help propel the movie to the top of Hollywood.
What is the Crypto film going to be about?
Hardcore cryptocurrency fans might be left slightly disappointed that the film will not reference any known cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. Kurt Russell will not be playing a cryptocurrency expert, either. In fact, he will be playing quite the opposite — a potato farmer. Neither of the film’s two producers claims to be experts on the subject of cryptocurrency. They have, however, dabbled a little bit in trading. They have left the heavy lifting to the writers of the film, who have immersed themselves in the world of cryptocurrency in order to make the movie as realistic as possible.
The producers have high hopes for cryptocurrency
In an exclusive interview with Inverse, Levine, and Beckerman explain that the reason they picked cryptocurrency as the theme is that they expect it to stay. They believe that the digital currencies will be an integral part of our society, and won’t be just another fad that comes and goes. This view of cryptocurrency is also reflected in the film, which largely portrays cryptocurrency in a positive light. That said, the movie will not fail to address the criminal elements of the cryptocurrency space.
